An Epidemiologic study of Rotavirus Gastroenteritis in children: A nine-year review in HYUH

Abstract

|
Human rotavirus(HRV) in the stools of children with acute gastroenteritis were detected by ELISA(Feb. 1982Apr. 1986) and LA test (May 1986-Dec. 1990) at Hanyang University Hospital. The results were following : 1. The postive rate of HRV was 34.2% (1,278/3,738 patients) 2. The seasonal distribution of HRV infection were 823 cases(64.8%) in autumn (Sep, Ott, Nov), 184 cases(14.5%) m winter(Dec, Jan, Feb), 156 cases(12.3%) in spring(Mar, Apr, May)- and 107 cases(8.4%) in summer(Jun, Jul, Aug). The frequency of HRV infection was highest on Nov. (36.5%, 463 cases) 3. The ratio of male and female children with HRV infection was 1.7 : 1 4. The age distribution of children with HRV infection were 104 cases(l4%) below 6 months of age, 712 cases(56% ) between 6 to 12 months of age, 347 cases(27% ) between 13 to 24 months of age, 22 cases(2%) between 25 to 36 months of age and 13 cases(l%) over 36 months age. 5. The positive rate of HRV by ELISA and LA test were 32.8% and 36.3% respectively.
